IBM Divides 109-Year Company
US-based technology company IBM decided to split its 109-year-old company The new company will start operating with a new name by the end of 2021.
IBM announced that it will open its information technology unit providing technical support for data centers to the public as a separate company.
According to the news in the international news agency Reuters, the new company will start operating with a new name by the end of 2021.
With this move, the company aims to focus more on automation and cloud activities under the IBM brand.
The surprise statement came from Arvind Krishna, the company's managing director. IBM bought Red Hat, a cloud company, for a record $ 34 billion last year under Krishna.
The company serves 4 thousand 600 customers in 115 countries in this field. IBM has a total of 352 thousand employees and the new company to be established will have 90 thousand employees.
Announcing its sales expectations for the third quarter of 2020, IBM predicts sales of $ 17.6 billion in this period.
