WHAT IS NETWORK SECURITY?


Network security is a term that defines tools, tactics, and security policies designed to monitor, prevent, and respond to unauthorized network attacks while protecting digital assets, including network traffic. Network security includes hardware and software technologies (including knowledgeable security analysts, hunters, event responders, etc.) and is designed to respond to all potential threats that target your network.


In other words, it is the defenses you use to keep the wrong people away from your sensitive data.

Hackers are trying to get inside; network security keeps them away. Within this definition, there are three main focuses that should serve as the basis of any network security strategy: protection, intrusion detection and intrusion prevention.

Protection: Requires any tool or policy designed to prevent malicious people from entering your network.

Detection: Refers to resources that allow you to analyze network traffic and quickly identify problems before they can cause damage.

Response: The ability to react to detected threats and resolve them as quickly as possible.

Network security exists to help your organization maintain not only sensitive information, but also its overall performance and reputation. Ongoing operational capability and solid reputation are two important advantages of effective network security.

Companies affected by cyber attacks often find themselves unable to provide services or respond to customer needs effectively. Similarly, networks play an important role in internal processes, and when they are attacked, these processes can come to a halt.

Given the rising identity theft revenue and other dangers related to theft of personal information, many customers are hesitant about sharing data with businesses. If a cyber attack occurs, many of these customers are likely to turn to safer alternatives.

Reliable network security software and hardware, combined with the right policies and strategies, can help ensure that cyber attacks are minimal when they happen.
