In fact, most of the technical features of an IPC (industrial PC) and desktop computer are basically the same. Microprocessor and RAM type, storage media, interface ports, performance, etc. However, the most important feature of industrial PCs is that they are designed to be used in difficult environmental environments such as production facilities.

THE DIFFERENCE OF STANDARD (DESKTOP OR LAPTOP) TYPE COMPUTERS WITH INDUSTRIAL PC

The industrial computer is specifically designed to withstand harsh workshop ambient conditions (extreme temperatures, dust, humidity, vibration, energy fluctuations), which standard computers cannot fully demonstrate. For this reason, industrial computers should be chosen instead of normal computers especially in production environments.

The following principles should be taken into consideration in the selection of computers for production areas.

PHYSICAL RESISTANCE

Temperature: While normal computers show resistance at 35 ° C, industrial computers can work in environments with ambient temperatures up to 45-50 ° C.
Liquid / Dust Protection: IP66 or at least IP65 protection class on the outer front surface for panel PCs, and IP21 protection class for PCs to be used in box-type panel.
Some models of industrial computers are fanless, some are provided with external fans, usually with special filters mounted to hold dust and other similar dirt, and cooling fans with dust protection. Thanks to the protection classes such as IP65 - IP66, dust protection is higher than standard computers.

Memory Units: Magnetic media (floppy, hard disk, CDROM), cooling system components directly and power supply
Shock Shock / Vibration Protection: Disk drives are mounted with shock absorbers providing cushioning and mechanical insulation.
Moisture: Liquid pollutants / coolants frequently used in production and machine environments (sanding machines, machining centers, transfer lines, lathes etc.) adversely affect the computer in the facility. You can reach high relative humidity values ​​with industrial PC.
Feeding Unit: Peak, fluctuating, transient voltages and noise caused by AC power sources are common in very common factory environments. Computers must be powered by clean, non-variable DC voltages, under all conditions and at all times.
Electromagnetic Compatibility: Proper grounding, protective and proper insulation and electrical design in conformity with internationally accepted electrical standards should be provided.
Extensibility and longevity: An IPC configuration provides different usage areas with the expandable slots it provides compared to the standard PC configuration. In addition, their lifespan is long since they use more durable (for example varnished motherboards, vibration-insulated memory units, MLC (Multi Layer Cell) technology with SSD (Solid State disks).
Certifications: Industrial computers must offer certifications in addition to CE certification, which is guaranteed to be less affected by electrical noise in the environment.
Test Reports: The most important document proving that a computer is industrial is the test reports that the manufacturer will submit. Each manufacturer must perform heat, vibration, aging, water and dust resistance tests for its product. It should be able to present to the customer when requested.
